Rhodes island sights - entertainmentTHE OLD TOWNThe heart of Rhodes beats in the unique medieval city. Within the walls of the city you will live the most beautiful days and nights on the island. Thousands of visitors pass the gates of the medieval city daily for endless walks down the narrow streets, having fun at the multicoloured market of Sokratous, visiting the Palace of the Grand Master and the museums, fish-eating in restaurants with history and outing at bars up to final fall at Miltiadou. At night almost all the narrow streets fill with tables and stools were one may see people of all nationalities of the earth having fun in the bars listening to every type of music Greek, Latin, jazz, house and becoming a large company. And all of those who wish to see the most beautiful sunset - straight to the beach of the aquarium. FALIRAKIFaliraki offers a large variety of entertainment to suit all preferences. The impressive night life is famous to the entire island since it covers all of the music demands and preferences of the visitors. Faliraki is similar to a massive Luna Park, where a restless crowd is entertained day and night. In the morning at the famous beach with the striped umbrellas at night at the noisy narrow streets with the multicoloured neon lights. Faliraki has two appearances: one is that of the grand luxury hotels with the private beaches and the other is of the noisy centre with the jeweller’s, the restaurants (Italian, Indian, Chinese, and Mexican) the cafeterias and the dance clubs. Vertical to the avenue, is Ermou Street that ends up at the beach, there one may find many bars, and clothing stores for youngsters, jewellers, fast foods, as well as shopping centres that house haberdasher’s to clubs. At the end of Ermou visitors can find the train that travels around the hamlet. Water games until final fall at the impressive water park, fun at the cart track, sky surfer, bungee jumping, Luna park, mini football, clubs of all types – as well as live strip shows, are some of the things the visitor may enjoy at Faliraki and if you still have your strength by night time then a swim in the beautiful sea is the best way to end your night. NEW TOWNIn the New Town you can walk down the streets of Mandraki with the cafeterias and the imposing buildings of the Italian conquest, gaze at the shop windows of the New Agora (market) and you should not miss a visit to the Museum of Modern Greek Art at the Ekato Hourmadies. The casino that is housed in the old hotel of Rhodes is available for those who want to challenge their luck and gamble in style. A visit to Monte Smith is necessary, were the Citadel of Rhodes is and a walk in the all over green park of Rodiniou. OUT OF TOWNSetting off from Town heading East the first stop is Kallithea with the wonderful hot springs, the Italian buildings that were renovated with respect to the tradition and the environment and the view is spectacular. Following will be a visit to the Arhaggelo, a graphic village with hospitable inhabitants. An Ouzo at the village square will relax you and you will be impressed by the dialect of the village that is similar to the dialect of Cyprus. The Haraki is a wonderful pebbled beach between Arhaggelos and Lindos. There you will find fresh fish in the taverns serving ouzo next to the seashore. And we reach Lindos a famous village with a wonderful Citadel and the derelicts of the temple of Lindias Athinas. Walk up and down the graphic narrow streets that offer every type of shop and after swim at the busy beach of Lindou. The taxi of Lindou – the donkeys – can take you long-distance rides. At the beautiful folklore museum you can see local ceramic and embroidery. Next to the Pefkous you will find great restaurants and also a swim in the sea will please you. At the Western side, 25km from the Town of Rhodes is the valley of the Petaloudes (Butterflies). It is a small valley full of trees – plane-trees, pine-trees, streams with clear water and thousands of butterflies that are either relaxing on the trunks of the trees or flying all together creating a feast of colours that make the visitors believe they are in paradise. Bridges and small footpaths ease the tour. There are also a museum, a refreshment room and a restaurant. It is also worth visiting the Ancient Kamiro, were you will see Archaeological findings from the temples, the market and the Citadel of the ancient town. At the southern end of the island, the Prasonisi, the seas join covering the land in the winter and in the summer the water is pulled away creating two beautiful beaches.
