Rhodes island Rodini ParkThe park Rodini, an earthly paradise is located lengthwise on the road to Lindo. It is probably the most ancient park in the world, a small valley full of oleanders, shady plane-trees, running water and fresh green lakes full of water lily's and little bridges that cross the lakes. The idyllic scenery – that we can drive through by car but a walk down the beautiful footpaths is much preferable – is completed by a rose garden as well as a small zoo were the visitor may marvel the famous deers of Rhodes. The peacocks that walk freely within the landscape of Rodini Park provide an impressive and exotic sensation. According to the legend Aeschines had his Rhetorical school in the Rodini Park, students of whom were important orators of ancient times such as Cicero and Julius Caesar. During the Medieval Period the mansion of the Grand Masters of the Ioanniton knights of Rhodes was located in the Rodini Park while the valley was the Park during the Turkish occupation. At Rodini Park we can see a part of the water supply system of the ancient town of Rhodes while above the park at the Peufakia we can see parts of the Old Nekropolis (4th – 3rd century) that reaches the Faneromeni and the Karakonero. At the Ancient Nekropolis we will see graves or tumulus atmospherically lighted and carved on the rocks of the Hellenic era with Dionysian shows carved on them, as well as an impressive in size tumulus carved on the rock 27,80meters long, that is named Tumulus of the Ptolemy and according to the legend it was dedicated to Ptolemaeus the First. Each of its side is adorned by 21 semi pillars of Doric rhythm. The tumulus of the Ptolemy was renovated in 1924 during the Italian occupation. Within the Park the Municipality of Rhodes operates a refreshment room while the renovating works that are in progress have purpose to provide its initial form as a park of entertainment and recreation.
